A week of sailing: Freedom and connection

days of Sailing:

Freedom and connection

Ahoy, fellow adventurers! Join me on a journey as I recount our unforgettable days of sailing, where time slows down.

Preparation

Our journey began with careful planning, starting with the selection of the perfect sailing route, taking into account weather conditions and must-see destinations. This time, we chose a northern route. The winds were in our favor, with the Maestral—a local wind blowing from the northwest in the afternoon—providing ideal sailing conditions. We stocked up on food and drinks, including fresh local fish, meat, some local wine, and plenty of water.

Disconnecting from the Outside World

One of the greatest joys of sailing is the opportunity to disconnect from the outside world and immerse oneself in the rhythm of the sea. With no emails to answer or deadlines to meet, we were free to explore and discover at our own pace. This is how a day on a boat looks like:

Day first

We departed from Biograd na Moru with our Beneteau Oceanis 46.1 sailing boat and enjoyed several hours of delightful sailing. By the afternoon, we anchored near the charming village of Muline on the island of Ugljan. There, we grilled the local fish we had bought that morning at the market. The evening was calm and filled with laughter and stories as we savored Plavac Mali, the famous red wine from Pelješac.

Day second

One of the greatest advantages of a sailing boat is the ability to jump into the sea as soon as you wake up. That’s exactly how I started my second day, followed by some kayaking on the SUP, exploring the bay and immersing myself in the calm and easy morning, enjoying the peace it brings. After a rich breakfast featuring kulen and Paški sir, traditional Croatian dishes, we were ready for a new day of adventures.

Today, we enjoyed several hours of sailing at a leisurely pace, cruising at about 4 knots. But when you’re at sea, there’s no rush. You just savor the blowing wind, open a beer, and relax on the boat. Time ceases to be a factor, and with Croatia’s islands being so close to each other you have plenty of option for tonights ancoring place.

Day third

Our short sailing adventures came to an end. Next time it will be longer but  we were filled with a sense of gratitude for the experiences we had shared.

We returned home well rested and with hearts full of  memories.
